Artist Exhibits Works at Friendly Bar Bistro in Johnson City, 8/31/06:
Joanna Burch, local award winning artist from the Wimberley, will be
showing her work at the Friendly Bar Bistro in Johnson City in September.
Joanna chose to exhibit her work in Johnson City because of the town's renewed
interest in the arts.
"There are wonderful galleries in and around
the town" she expressed. Joanna's work demonstrates her enjoyment in painting a
variety of subjects using various media, such as watercolor, oils, pastels,
color pencil, and her favorite - porcelain painting. She has been represented by
various galleries throughout the United States and has presented her works
in many competitions.
Joanna teaches art classes and
seminars while working with several organizations in the Hill Country to support
the arts. A native-born Texan, Joanna's career started in graphic arts over 30
years ago. At present, she and her husband reside in the Wimberley area.
She loves working with strong light and shadows to strengthen her
compositions. Joanna revealed that being an artist "is what I love and
will continue to do!".

Lilli Pell, Texas artist, exhibits work at Friendly Bar Bistro
Lilli Pell, award winning artist from Wimberley, is
exhibiting her paintings at the Friendly Bar Bistro in Johnson City, Texas.
Lilli, who has paintings at the Witte Global Gallery in Austin, Gallery on the
Square in Wimberley, and at the H.Y. Price Center in San Marcos chose the
Friendly Bar Bistro in Johnson City due to the local interest in the arts and
the central location of other art galleries in and around Johnson City.
Lilli said, "The Friendly Bar Bistro presents a fresh and beautiful
atmosphere to display my paintings!" She was then asked what inspires her to
paint. She answered, "I am often asked how I come to select my subjects and the
answer is "I paint what I find irresistible." I don't know what produces the
inner motivation and compulsion to capture the moment in paint, but it is
definitely consistent and ever present. It is almost always triggered by the
play of light and how it changes constantly on the landscape and how it defines
the uniqueness of a still life, a flower, or a beautiful animal."
Her paintings will be exhibited throughout the month of August.

Johnson City
has a new Wine Bar, The Friendly Bar, has reopened as the Friendly Bar Bistro.
Tom and Cindy Talcott, the new owners, are transforming the old 1870's saloon
building into a new wine bar serving selected wines from Texas as well as wines
from around the world. Beer favorites will be served in bottle and on tap with
selections of Mexican beers and local Blanco Beers. Bread and cheese plates will
be offered to complement your choice of beverage. The Talcott's, from Wimberley,
have embraced the Hill Country and lived here for the last 10 years.
"When the Friendly Bar became available, with its historic building
dating back to the 1870's, we knew this was our new adventure to bring it back
to its post Civil War glory"! The infamous mural on the wall remains the central
focus of the Bistro. Located in Johnson City's Historic District, across
the street from art galleries and shopping spots, the bistro is a perfect stop
for refreshments and a light snack before, during and after your visit to
Johnson City. Lilli Pell, an accomplished award winning artist from Wimberley,
presently will have her art featured at the Bistro. Local artists are encouraged
to display their talents at the Bistro. "I feel privileged that Lilli's art is
being exhibited in the Bistro," said Cindy. The Talcott's own several Lilli Pell
pieces in their personal collection.
"The main wine bar is open and gradually the back patio will be the beer
garden," said Tom Talcott. "The front porch and rear patio will allow for
smoking and the bistro bar will remain non-smoking". Featured entertainment will be scheduled including a "hot microphone" night as well as other music venues such as blues, country, jazz and chamber music. The Bistro will be open Thursday through Sunday. The Talcott's look forward

Friendly Bar Bistro Invites Musical Artists, 8/10/06: The Friendly Bar Bistro will
have a "hot mike" on Thursday nights from 6pm to 8 pm. The Bistro, located at
106 N. Nugent in Johnson City, is inviting local talent to play on stage. Each
group will be asked to play 3-5 songs.
"I am looking for
talented individuals or small groups who can play on various Friday and Saturday
nights," said Tom Talcott, the owner. "I am looking forward to meeting the local
talent and having more of these nights!" Johnny Greenberg, Texas Music's top
producer for 2006, got his start at the old Friendly Bar during a "hot mike"
session. Individuals or groups who are interested in this venue are encouraged
to call the Friendly Bar Bistro at 830-868-2182 to sign up. The Friendly Bar
Bistro is open Thursday though Sunday from 3pm to closing.
